About us

Westfield House is an independent nursery school situated on the outskirts of Aston, between Standlake and Bampton. Opened in 1989, the school was founded by two friends, Gill Hook and Hilary Fenton, who shared a common interest and experience in childcare.

Westfield House has a working affiliation with Cokethorpe School, close to Ducklington, near Witney. The two schools share resources and experience. Children from Westfield's eldest class, the 'Robin Class', visit Cokethorpe every Wednesday afternoon, for a couple of hours. Whilst there, the children partake in a range of creative and physical activities. The experience helps ready the children for moving on through the education system, whilst also letting them experience first hand Cokethorpe's excellent care and facilities.

Set in over two acres of mature grounds, Westfield House Nursery School has a large, fenced, outdoors, grass play area as well as hard surfaces for wet days. In April 2009, a smaller garden (named The Patch) was developed, in which the children can grow their own fruit and vegetables, whilst learning about gardening, animals and nature in general. Work is currently underway on a large, outdoors 'Play Jungle'.

Whilst at Westfield, children can enjoy a range of activities, including music, ballet, cooking and gardening. Westfield House maintains good relationships within the local community and are happy to regularly host representatives from local emergency services and community services, who come and talk to the children about such matters as road safety and caring for each other.

A two course lunch is served daily, prepared by the resident cook, with an emphasis on healthy eating.

Each child joining the school is introduced to one of four self-contained nursery units and children start from 6 weeks up to school age. The friendly and experienced staff aim to give each child the best chance to develop both as individuals and as part of a close community.
